New to the site: Community Day, the free, all-ages centerpiece of the second annual Asian American Dance Festival (AADF2026), takes place Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 11am to 4pm at the City Heights Performance Annex and adjoining Jeremy Henwood Memorial Park.
The day features a rotating lineup of AAPI cultural dance troupes and community groups performing (and often teaching) throughout the afternoon, including Polynesian dance and Tai Chi with Makani Kai and Matthew Tay, Odissi with the Center for World Music, Chinese classical dance with Xingjian Dance Studio, K-pop with Haappy Daance, Philippine dance with pinaypages, breaking with CYPHERST8, Yosakoi with SD Yosakoi, and Kung Fu, lion dance, and taiko with Sifu Ferreira’s White Dragon of East County and Genbu Daiko. AAPI cultural and community organizations also set up informational and family-friendly activity booths.
Community Day caps the two-week festival, presented by TILTshift Dance and bkSOUL, which centers early- to mid-career AAPI dance makers with a citywide series of events (film screenings, a residency showcase, and a mainstage showcase) spanning La Jolla, Liberty Station, City Heights, and San Diego City College. TILTshift Dance is fiscally sponsored by San Diego Dance Theater, and AADF receives partial funding from the City of San Diego’s Cultural Affairs department.
