Old Town San Diego State Historic Park celebrates Mexican Independence Day with its annual Fiestas Patrias on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 11am to 4pm.
The free, family-friendly celebration honors the rich heritage of Mexico and California with hands-on traditional crafts, living history demonstrations, and traditional Folklorico dancers performing throughout the day. Festivities kick off with a community parade around the historic plaza at 11am, followed by music, art, and the flavors of Mexican culture woven throughout the park’s adobe buildings and courtyards. The Boosters of Old Town San Diego and the Old Town San Diego Chamber of Commerce also host the Old Town Guac’ Off as part of the day’s events.
Fiestas Patrias marks the beginning of Mexico’s fight for independence and honors Mexican heritage, tradition, and history during National Hispanic Heritage Month.
