The Sherman Heights Dia de los Muertos celebration typically begins in mid-October and continues through November 2nd. One of San Diego’s most authentic and longest standing Dia de los Muertos Celebrations in the heart of Sherman Heights. Embrace Mexican culture and experience a traditional celebration, honoring our departed loved ones.
Noche de Mole - Opening Reception & Alter Preview
Thursday, October 19 6:30 to 9:00 PM $25-$30 The Sherman Heights Community Center invites you to its Noche de Mole Opening Reception to kick off the festivities for the Día de los Muertos Celebration in the heart of Historic Sherman Heights. Experience this beautiful tradition and enjoy a sampling of a variety of mole sauces, a traditional Mexican cuisine which is also a common offering during Day of the Dead. The evening will feature live music, a special dance performance by Sherman Heights/DanzArtsSD Ballet Folklórico, a silent auction, and a preview of more than 20 community altars, part of this year’s exhibit.
Muertos Festival
Saturday, October 28 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM Free Join us for San Diego’s most authentic and longest standing Dia de los Muertos Celebration in the heart of Sherman Heights! Come embrace Mexican culture and experience a traditional celebration, honoring our departed loved ones. This fun-filled day begins with an official blessing of the community altars, followed by live performances, food, shopping and self-guided altar tours.
Desayuno Con Los Muertos
Date: TBD 9:30 to 12:00 PM Cost varies by item Guests are invited to a community breaksfast in memory of those who have passed away. Menu includes: Menudo, Tamales, Champurrado, Aguas Frescas, Café de Olla, Pan de Muertos. Our Dia de los Muertos Tiendita (Market) will be open from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM where you can expect to find traditional items needed to build your very own Day of the Dead altar at home.
Muertos Candlelight Procession
Thursday, November 2 6:00 to 9:00 PM We invite you to participate in the Annual Muertos Candlelight Procession from the Sherman Heights Community Center to the Historic Chicano Park in Barrio Logan. We encourage guests to bring a candle and/or pictures of departed loved ones as we march in their memory. Dia de los Muertos facepainting and/or costumes highly encouraged
